Caregiver Tips Every Day During November for National Family Caregivers Month

November is National Family Caregivers Month.  It’s a time to remember, appreciate and lend a helping hand or listening ear to the caregivers you know.

Caregiving is a tough job.  No one can truly understand what a caregiver goes through if they haven’t experienced it.  Caregiving is lonely and takes a heavy toll on the caregiver’s physical and emotional well-being.

We are sharing a tip every day during National Family Caregiver’s Month.  We have tips to help caregivers with their own self-care, as well as tips to help caregivers care for their loved one.  The daily tips are being posted to Twitter @SusanBrownell. The tips can also be found daily on Facebook by searching for the page called “Sanctuary For Cancer Caregivers”.  We hope these tips help you or someone you know who is a caregiver.  Read More→

International Day of Peace

You can’t turn on television without seeing it and hearing it.  You can’t be on Social Media without massive exposure. It appears the amount of anger, hate, discontent and violence in the world is escalating and we are being bombarded with it. Once in a while a story surfaces of a hero or a good deed done by a stranger.  Those stories are a breath of fresh air in an otherwise trying era for our country and our world.  Everyone has an opinion.  We sometimes forget we may not have access to all the information.  Sometimes we jump to conclusions and think the worst of people without knowing the entire story.  It’s easy to do that in the age we live in. The Story Behind “Cocoon of Love for Cancer Caregivers”

You’ve heard about the book, but have you heard the story behind the book?  Over twenty years ago a series of events was set in motion to forever change my life.  It caused me to reassess how I lived my life and my priorities.  Some things in life tug at your heart and produce a drive to do something to “help make it better”.  What that was and how I responded to that call to take action was often interrupted by life events.  Just the same, the burning desire to write this book kept gnawing at me.  If you’d like to know the story behind the story, you might like this recent article published in The Monroe County Herald, Sparta, Wisconsin.  It tells why I wrote the book, what got in the way of writing it, and why I chose the title I used.  You can read the newspaper article here:  “Tragic losses to cancer inspires Sparta author to pen award-winning book.”
