Picking five favorite books is like picking the five body parts you’d most like not to lose.
~ Neil Gaiman ~
Never underestimate the power of the page! In this age of being constantly bombarded by a host of media and social media, we have information overload.
Do you read as much as you did ten years ago? Do you ever slow down and pick up a book, read, and turn the pages? Do you own a Kindle or other electronic reader?
We all have so much going on in our lives, we may tend to not get around to reading as much as in the past. Today’s readers are looking for more information, but in a more condensed version. Gone are the days of reading self-help books full of fluff and filler. People want solid information. Readers want tips and solutions to their problems.Today we celebrate World Book Day. Books have been with us for hundreds of years. We may take them for granted. Books impact lives by touching hearts and providing help to people searching for answers. And, yes, books also entertain. What a great get-away can happen from the most comfortable chair in our living room as we escape the worries and stress of the world and lose ourselves in the pages of a good book.
I have been recently reminded of the pride and joy experienced while learning to read as I have watched my grandchildren quickly master learning to read and sounding out words. They learn so quickly!
People have been saying good things about books for many, many years.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. ~ Cicero
My Best Friend is a person who will give me a book I have not read. ~ Abraham Lincoln
Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self. ~ Franz Kafka
I cannot live without books. ~ Thomas Jefferson
It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it. ~ Oscar Wilde
Books make great gifts because they have whole worlds inside of them. And it’s much cheaper to buy somebody a book than it is to buy them the whole world! ~ Neil Gaiman
There is no friend as loyal as a book. ~ Ernest Hemingway
So, what are you waiting for, my friend? Where did you put that book you have been wanting to read? Dust it off and lose yourself in it. Enjoy World Book Day!
