Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
Isaiah 46:4 NIV
Do you ever feel forgotten? When life’s challenges keep coming, one after the other, do you wonder if anyone cares? Everyone is dealing with their own challenges. Maybe I shouldn’t bother them with mine. They have enough to deal with. They don’t need my problems too.
God didn’t just throw us down to this earth and abandon us. He will never walk away. He will never leave us alone. He created us. He knit us together in our mother’s womb. He carried us through the trauma of our birth. He protected us through the bumps and bruises of learning to walk. He helped us survive the bike wrecks and broken arms of childhood. He brought us through the growing pains of the teen years and helped us navigate becoming an adult.
He has done so much for us and He asks for so little from us in comparison. Even so, we sometimes struggle to do those things. Just believe in Him. Just love Him. Love others. Put Him first. Obey the Ten Commandments. Repent of your sins. Pray. Read the Bible. Spend time with Him to build a relationship. Follow Him. Give yourself to Jesus.
God never promised us that life would be easy. He did promise us that He would be here for us. He did promise us that He would get us through it all—including the difficult and challenging times. When we can’t walk through life, He will carry us. When we need hope and encouragement, He will sustain us. When grief drags us down, He lifts us up. When we are in danger, if we call on Him, He will rescue us from that danger. He will do these things all through our life. He will rescue us from all kinds of frightening situations. He will protect us from evil and the evil one. He will sustain us through pandemics and food shortages. He will sustain us through our foolish choices, careless deeds, and sinful acts. He will be with us when we mess up. He will even sustain us through our wrinkles, gray hairs, and arthritic hips. He will comfort us with His word and the assurance of Jesus’ gift of forgiveness.
As God looks in His Book of Life, He sees our appointed time. When our life’s work is done and our time has come, He will sustain us through our dying breaths and rescue us from this sin-filled world to take us home. From conception through death, it is He who will sustain us. All through life, He is the one we can always depend on. He is our constant. Because of Him we are never abandoned. Never alone.
I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you.
John 14:18 NIV
